Former Iron Maiden frontman dies at 66

Paul Di’Anno, former singer of the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has died. He was 66 years old.

Di’Anno died on Monday, October 21, at his home in Salisbury, England, the musician’s record label Conquest Music said on Facebook.

Although no official cause of death was given, Di’Anno had been dealing with “serious health issues” in recent years, the label said.

“Paul continued to entertain his fans around the world, performing over 100 shows since 2023,” Conquest wrote. “Conquest Music is proud to have Paul Di’Anno in our artist family and asks his legion of fans to raise a glass in his memory.”

Di’Anno was born Paul Andrews in Chingford, East London, on May 17, 1958, and rose to fame as the lead singer of Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981.

He sang on the band’s debut album ‘Iron Maiden’ and on the second album ‘Killers’. Di’Anno went on to pursue a solo career – releasing several projects – and performing in bands such as Gogmagog, Killers, Rockfellas and most recently Warhorse.

Iron Maiden released a statement following Di’Anno’s death, saying the singer’s impact “was enormous and helped us on the path we have been on as a band for almost five decades.”

“His groundbreaking presence as a frontman and singer, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be fondly remembered not only by us, but by fans around the world,” the band continued. “On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy, and the entire Iron Maiden team, we extend our deepest condolences to Paul’s family and close friends.”

Di’Anno was married five times and has six children, according to The Independent.
