Former Steelers CB challenges players after loss to Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens went viral and then received some criticism he said after the club’s painful 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, that he thinks the Browns are “not a good team at all” and that the club winter conditions at Huntington Bank Field “kind of saved” Cleveland.

Former Steelers cornerback and current analyst Bryant McFadden shared a different opinion as he spoke CBS Sports Headquarters shortly after the end of Thursday’s game.

“Now you guys gotta look yourselves in the mirror,” McFadden said of Pittsburgh’s players, as shared by Troy Montgomery from Steelers Depot. “We have given the Pittsburgh Steelers a pat on the back in recent weeks, rightfully so based on their performance. Now you really have to look at yourself in the mirror and go back to the little things, paying attention to details.”

While Pittsburgh had won five consecutive games heading into Thursday night, there were signs that the AFC North club was more of a pretender than a legitimate contender before the game fell to 8-3. The Steelers scored zero touchdowns and were therefore needed six Chris Boswell field goals for the second time this season in last Sunday’s 18-16 home victory over the rival Baltimore Ravens.

ESPN betting named Pittsburgh a 3.5-point favorite against Cleveland before kickoff, but the visitors then trailed throughout the second half of the game until receiver Calvin Austin III recorded a 23-yard score. touchdown catch with 6:15 remaining in regulation. Following a shinned punt, what was supposed to be a top-tier Steelers defense gave up a game-losing 45-yard touchdown drive while facing backup Cleveland quarterback Jameis Winston.

The Browns started the night 2-8 on the season.

“When you look at a team that’s thriving at the Pittsburgh Steelers,” McFadden continued, “you’d like to see a better start down the road. That’s the most important thing when you’re playing against a team that’s headed in the wrong direction. ”

The Steelers will have some additional time to recover from this setback before preparing for their game against the 4-7 Cincinnati Bengals on December 1. A Bengals team that has suffered six one-possession losses this season his farewell after last Sunday evening.
