Former Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons did something to Jets QB Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh that he will never forget

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off an exciting road win against the Las Vegas Raiders, increasing their 2024 record to 4-2. Now they will host the New York Jets on Sunday night. The Jets, still reeling from another loss, have significantly improved their offense with the recent acquisition of Davante Adams.

While the Jets boast a talented offensive roster, their struggles in winning games have left them desperate for a road win in Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers is happy to have Adams back as a teammate, and the Steelers should prepare for him again. Although Adams did not play against the Steelers with the Raiders due to injury, reports indicate he will suit up with his new team this Sunday.

After the trade, Rodgers and Adams showed up The Pat McAfee Show. During his usual Tuesday segment, Rodgers addressed Steelers fan Tone Digz, who asked if he was ready for the raucous atmosphere that Steeler Nation would bring. Rodgers praised the Steelers fans and expressed his excitement to face them in Pittsburgh.

“There are some special places to play in the league and then there are some that are very special. I would say Pittsburgh is one of those places. For me it’s the history of it. I grew up watching to old VHS tapes of Super Bowl highlights… the 70s were the Steelers.”

Rodgers reflected on all the games he has played in Pittsburgh, even including the preseason games. Steelers fans certainly remember the Super Bowl when Rodgers led his team to victory against them, but his comments about the fan base and the organization were genuinely kind.

He then spoke heartfelt words about Mike Tomlin and the Steelers franchise, emphasizing the respect he has for both.

“They have a great fan base. They have a great home field advantage and in Mike Tomlin they have one of my favorite coaches and people in the league. They play that Defector in the fourth quarter. You know what’s coming. It’s a great place to play, it’s a loud, rough environment.”

Rodgers also took the opportunity to highlight one of his least favorite memories of playing in Pittsburgh. It dates back to the 2009 game when the Steelers narrowly defeated the Green Bay Packers 37-36.

Early in that game, Lawrence Timmons delivered a punishing goal that knocked Rodgers to the ground. He remembered that moment as the hardest blow he ever received in his career.

“I remember the first time they did a medium pressure in 2009, and Lawrence Timmons gave me the hardest hit I’ve ever taken in my life, right on my chin. I thought, ‘Man, I hope it doesn’t will be like this all night long.’ “

Going up against one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time is always a challenge, especially now that he has his all-time favorite offensive weapon back in Adams thanks to the recent trade.

The Steelers game against the Jets guarantees must-watch football

On Sunday night, the Steelers will look to create another difficult memory for Rodgers by securing a victory. The Jets are desperate for a win, while the Steelers are eager to build on their momentum and rack up more wins.

This matchup promises to be exciting, with the Steelers’ star-studded defense tasked with slowing down a Jets offense loaded with talent. For Steelers fans, hearing Rodgers speak fondly of their fan base and bringing back the Timmons hit adds an intriguing layer to their history.
