FX Wins Most Emmys of 2024 as ‘Shogun’ and ‘The Bear’ Had Best Nights

FX claimed the title of most-won TV network at the Emmy Awards, thanks in large part to the night’s biggest winners, “Shogun” and “The Bear.”

FX closed out the night with 36 total wins, with “Shogun” taking the win 18 and “The Bear” get 11. This is the first time in at least 15 years that the top network of the night wasn’t Netflix or HBO. It’s also the first time that FX has outpaced all other networks in total wins. FX’s best year before this was in 2016, with 18 wins.

“The Bear” broke his own record for most wins by a comedy series in a single year, surpassing last year’s 10 wins. Cast members Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas all won statuettes, as did series creator Chris Storer in the best director for a comedy category. “Shogun” also broke the record for most wins by a show in a single season. Stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won the awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama respectively, while the series itself won the award for Best Drama Series.

FX had 93 nominations for this year’s Emmys, including 25 for “Shogun” and 23 for “The Bear,” with the latter breaking the record for most nominations for a single season for a comedy series.

Another big winner of the night was the Netflix miniseries “Baby Reindeer,” which won for Best Miniseries, Best Actor in a Miniseries (Richard Gadd) and Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries (Jessica Gunning). The series won six awards in total. Netflix won a total of 24 Emmys for the year, including four wins for the hit animated series “Blue Eye Samurai” and a win for Elizabeth Debicki for her portrayal of Princess Diana in “The Crown.”

HBO and Max closed out the night with a total of 14 wins. “Hacks” won multiple awards, including best comedy series, best actress in a comedy (Jean Smart) and best screenplay for a comedy series. Meanwhile, Jodie Foster won best actress in a limited series for “True Detective: Night Country.”

After the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 7 and 8, “Shogun” had 14 Emmy Awards, while “The Bear” had seven. FX had 27 total Primetime Emmy awards. Netflix, meanwhile, had 18, and HBO/Max and Apple TV+ both had eight. “Shogun’s” 14 wins already represented the most wins ever for a single show in a single year.
