Georgia Football vs. No. 1 Texas finals odds and a prediction

No. No. 5 Georgia and No. 1 Texas will battle it out on Saturday night in Austin, Texas at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Georgia is looking to bowl their way into eligibility by improving their record to 6-1, while also getting back in the driver’s seat when it comes to making it to the SEC Championship game.

The Bulldogs still have a lot of tough games coming up, but none will be tougher than this one. Georgia is even an underdog for the first time since 2021.

But how much of an underdog is Georgia?

As of December 19 at 5:00 EST, Texas is a five-point favorite over Georgia on ESPN Bet. The over-under also stands at 57.5 points. ESPN’s FPI forecaster also gives UGA a 23.6 percent chance of beating Texas.

I’ve been all over the place this week with who I think will win this match. Early in the week I thought Texas would win this game and I wouldn’t have been surprised if they won by a comfortable margin. But as the week goes by, I find myself growing more confident that Georgia will overcome the unrest.

Maybe this is my bias starting to kick in, but my prediction is starting to follow my heart instead of my head.

So give me Kirby Smart and Georgia to come to Austin, with the entire college football world watching, and bring a big win back to Athens. I also think both defenses will struggle in this match, so I predict the over will strike as well.

A Georgia win will also make this game one of the all-time best wins in program history. Beating the No. 1 team in the country on the road to get back into the SEC and national championships is big enough, but a win would also be Smart’s 100th of his career.

And I predict that this is exactly what we will be celebrating late Saturday night.

Final prediction: Georgia wins 34-31
