Giants news, 11/23: Daniel Jones release fallout, Tommy DeVito, John Mara, more headlines

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Other Giant Observations

Victor Cruz believes the New York Giants need to evaluate the talent they have across the board | SBNation.com

Victor noted that the Giants need to figure out some sort of North Star and move forward with that in regards to the rebuild they are about to undergo. It’s extremely difficult to succeed in the NFL, even when you have immensely talented people on your roster. I don’t know if this is the case for this year’s Giants team, but I do know that it is very difficult to be as consistently bad as they have been since Cruz and others left the organization.

Statement by John Mara

Giants release Daniel Jones: What it means for NY and what comes next for the QB | The Athletics

Why the Giants made the move: What I’m reading about Daniel Jones’ release: It’s mutually beneficial, but the Giants wouldn’t make the first move.

If Jones had been okay with showing up every day and going through the motions as a QB4, they would have gone with it. But once he asked out, they would (obviously) grant that wish. — Dan Duggan, Giants beat writer

Giants’ Brian Daboll’s handling of Daniel Jones’ situation could cost him the locker room – and lead to his firing | NJ.com

Daniel Jones spent most of his time on the sidelines with his hands in his pockets during Giants practice on Wednesday. He was a scout team safety during Thursday’s practice. He was released on Friday.

Dabs’ Digest: Week 12 conversation with coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com

Q: In the three games you won last year when he was quarterback, the defense and special teams had 12 points. You always talk about complementary football. Is that a good example?

Daboll: “That was an important part of our farewell research. This year, teams that have won the turnover ratio in a game have won all teams combined 76% of the time. Start with that. We didn’t try hard enough to take care of the ball or take the ball. In the matches we have played we are generally already behind the eight ball. Making sure we take good care of the ball is something we emphasize on a daily basis. Practice work, band study, presentation and then catching the ball. That is something we have to do a good job of in the coming half of the season. A better job in that area.”

Tyrone Tracy remembers the moment in vivid detail.

It was Day 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft and Tracy, wearing a brown paisley jacket with a white shirt underneath, was sitting in the banquet room of a hotel in his hometown of Indianapolis, surrounded by crowds of his closest friends and family members.

On a Sunday night in November 2014, Beckham made a play that has been considered one of the greatest receptions in NFL history for a decade.

2025 NFL Draft No. 1 Pick Odds: Examining Current Last-Place Scenarios for Giants | ProFootballNetwork.com

New York Giants (2-8). The Browns’ win over TNF is the New York Giants’ win, as they now have a 21.3% chance of earning the first overall pick in Week 12, the highest odds of any team. New York has a roughly average remaining strength of schedule (14th-toughest), with a Thanksgiving visit to Dallas one of the best remaining chances for a win. Depending on DeVito’s development in his rookie season, the Giants could have better odds at picking the No. 1 pick than these projections suggest.

There can be life after the Giants – Sterling Shepard can attest to this | New York Post

“It’s just different, in so many different ways and on so many different levels,” he said. “When it comes to the little things, what you can do as a player in the building, the way you can communicate and be hand-in-hand with the coaches, it’s just a lot of different things that I picked. because I’ve been there so long. Even for the training staff or the weight coaches and some of the different things we do here, it’s a difference… I’m not saying the way they do it is bad, because it’s not. It’s just different and I got to see the other side of it.”

Todd Bowles: We’ll play Mike Evans as long as he’s healthy and fresh | Pro football talk

Evans said “this week definitely increased my confidence” about being able to play his regular role and head coach Todd Bowles said the team is not going into the weekend with a preconceived number of snap counts in mind for the wideout.

“We’ll play him as long as he’s healthy and fresh,” Bowles said via a team transcript. “If he needs to be in there, he’ll be in there, but we’ll get him out if we have to.”
