Rochester, NY — When it comes to star Goldie Hawn, it’s impossible to overdo it with praise.

The actor has won many awards during her storied career, starting with an Oscar and a Golden Globe for “Cactus Flower,” one of her first films. Hawn founded the Goldie Hawn Foundation to support children’s emotional development and has written two best-selling books.

And tonight in Upstate New York, Hawn will add another accolade to her resume.

Hawn is this year’s winner of the George Eastman Award for her contribution to the art of cinema. She will receive the award tonight, October 22, at the Dryden Theater of the George Eastman Museum in Rochester.

The George Eastman Award dates back to 1955 and has recognized legends such as Meryl Streep, Charlie Chaplin and Martin Scorsese. Jodie Foster won the award in 2023.

Hawn became a household name in 1968 on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In,” a popular TV sketch comedy.

She quickly transitioned to film and began a long career that included roles in “Private Benjamin,” a film she co-produced and for which she earned an Academy Award nomination; “Overboard,” the romantic comedy she starred in with her longtime partner Kurt Russell; and “The First Wives Club,” a classic comedy with an all-star cast.

“Throughout her career, Goldie Hawn has brought a unique comedic flair to films,” said Bruce Barnes, Ron and Donna Fielding director of the George Eastman Museum, in a press release. “Her screen persona in many of her films belies her shrewd management of her career.”

The director also praised Hawn for his more than two decades of commitment to improving the “emotional and social lives” of children.

Hawn has also passed on her acting skills to her three children, including actor Kate Hudson.

The 2024 George Eastman Award ceremony begins at 8 p.m. at the Dryden Theater at 900 East Ave. A conversation takes place with Hawn and is followed by a gala at the museum.
