Google’s AI-powered weather app is rolling out to older Pixels

Google’s Pixel 9 has launched with a cool new standalone weather app that can summarize outdoor conditions using AI. As reported by 9to5Googlethe company is rolling it out to older Pixels running Android 15 with the latest updates installed, including one of ours here on The edge.

The standalone Google Weather app pulls saved locations from the built-in weather service already on Pixels, so you can track the weather in multiple locations, arrange weather data blocks, track the weather on a map, and get a summary so you can to find out if an umbrella is needed for the day.

Some Google Weather features are reminiscent of the discontinued Dark Sky app.

At the time of writing, the app currently has a 2.3-star rating, with a few complaints noted, such as a note that you can’t check the weather in random cities without first adding them to your list of saved locations. Google Weather is a welcome new option for those who haven’t found a favorite weather app since Dark Sky was acquired and discontinued by Apple in 2020.
