Greater Newark, NJ, fire tore through at least three homes | LIVE

A major fire broke out in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday afternoon, ripping through several homes as smoke billowed into the skyline.

The fire broke out in west Newark, near the border with Irvington and the Garden State Parkway. Preliminary reports indicate it may have come from Montgomery Avenue near South 20th Street.

On October 15, a fire breaks out in Newark, New Jersey

At least three homes caught fire, possibly a fourth, helicopter reporter Dan Rice said.

“It’s a little windy here, which may have contributed,” Rice said.

Images of SkyFOX show flames coming from the back of the houses as crews try to contain the fire.

“One of the biggest issues that firefighters are going to have is this wooded area behind those homes. Trying to get in there, trying to get the fire under control is one of the issues right now,” Rice said.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently unclear.
