Gusts of wind are forecast with temperatures dropping by 10-15 degrees

We start the week with unsettled weather.

MONDAY: Expect mostly sunny skies, windy conditions and cooler temperatures. Highs will reach around 83 degrees in Las Vegas this afternoon, down from Sunday’s high of 96 degrees.

A WIND WARNING will be in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday for sustained southwest winds 25-35 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. A WARNING FOR LAKE WIND is also in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for southerly winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Wave heights on area lakes will be around 2 ft to 4 ft. Because choppy lake water is expected, boating is discouraged, especially for smaller craft.

Wind gusts in the valley today will be around 30-40 mph with some of the stronger winds expected on the edges of the valley, especially on the west side of the city. Showers will be mainly confined to Northern Nevada with snow above 9,000 ft in the Sierra & White Mountains.

Air quality this morning has been assessed as ‘good’ and pollen levels for weeds and grass pollen are ‘moderate’.

MONDAY EVENING: Skies will be mostly clear tonight with cooler overnight valley low temperatures dropping to around 60 degrees. Valley low temperatures will drop to the upper 50s on the edges of the valley. Winds will gradually decrease after midnight, 15-25 mph from the southwest. There is also the possibility of seeing a smoke plume moving back into Southern Nevada late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, around 2:00-3:00 a.m. It looks like conditions will clear up before sunrise based on the latest smoke model forecast.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The low pressure area that brought gusty winds early in the week is now moving northeast toward the Intermountain West.

On Tuesday the weather will be a bit calmer and temperatures in the valley will remain around 27 degrees.

Our next weather maker arrives midweek. This system will move south from the Pacific Northwest. Winds will pick up again Wednesday, with a slight chance of mountain showers.

The best chance of wet weather is on Thursday, with the highest chance in the mountains. Valley temperatures will remain in the 80s for the rest of the workweek.

The high pressure areas that are now developing will cause temperatures to rise again to around 35 degrees Celsius by the weekend. This will officially mark the start of autumn.

After these 7 days, temperatures in the valley seem to remain around 35 degrees.

Come back later for more updates and have a nice day!
