Halloween Megastore Rips ‘SNL’ in Revenge for Scathing New Sketch: ‘Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show’

Halloween pop-up store chain Spirit Halloween recently criticized the iconic sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” in an X-post this week after the NBC program made fun of the store in a skit last weekend.

The store’s official

Spirit Halloween’s made the anti-SNL statement just a few days after the show featured a sketch mocking the holiday-themed store.

The skit — which aired during the premiere episode of the comedy show’s 50th season — was a fake commercial for the store that poked fun at repurposing the storefronts of shuttered businesses in cities that have fallen on hard times, only to leave after selling Halloween costumes. for six weeks.

“Thanks to us, what used to be a condemned AutoZone where a murder took place is once again a thriving business where a murder took place,” SNL castmate Michael Longfellow joked during the sketch while playing a Spirit Halloween employee.

The official SNL

The holiday store returned to X on Monday and provided its own parody of the long-running comedy show.

The store shared an image of an “SNL 50” costume in Spirit Halloween’s recognizable orange packaging.

Like Spirit’s real packages, the parody included descriptions of the costume, in this case negative lines about the 50th season of SNL.

The package read: “Contains: dated references, unknown cast members, shrinking ratings.”

In the caption of the post, the store wrote, “We’re great at bringing things back from the dead @nbcsnl.”

X users found the feud between the store and the show funny.

Comedian and author Lou Perez wrote, “Both the SNL skit and Spirit Halloween’s reaction are funny. More of this please.”

Actor Nathan Brimmer mocked the store, saying, “It’s wonderful to see you struggle because you’re being served properly on SNL.”

Comedian Luis J. Gomez praised Spirit, saying, “Spirit Halloween with the kill shot.”

The latest episode of SNL went viral for other reasons this weekend. Former NBCUniversal senior executive Mike Sington blasted the show for creating a sketch that made light of the assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump.

The skit featured Trump — played by SNL cast member James Austin Johnson — urging his rallygoers to stay put as gunfire ripped toward him.

“Where’s everyone going? Where are you going? I see you’re trying to leave, but the doors are locked. Come back, we’re having fun. We love my rallies, except when someone does the ‘bing, bong’ .” bing, bing, bing’ right at me,” Johnson said, as Trump said, with finger guns.

Sington told Fox News Digital this week: “I watched it live and cringed as they mocked the assassination attempts in an attempt to be funny. I’m not a fan of Trump, but I thought it was in extremely poor taste.”
