Has earned over $12 million

Eva Longoria is still receiving checks from her $6 million investment in 2014’s “John Wick” more than a decade later, she recently confirmed to Business Insider. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Longoria quietly stepped in to close the film’s $6 million financing gap, less than 24 hours before production was set to shut down completely. Essentially, there wouldn’t be a “John Wick” franchise without Longoria’s contribution that saved the original film.

“That’s right. Besides, I was still in my infancy,” Longoria said, speaking about her “John Wick” investment for the first time. “My bankroll was very new, and it was a lot of money, and I thought, ‘How does it work?’ I had no idea. I’d like to say I was an investing genius and I just knew it and calculated my risk. No, none of that.

“An agent, and he wasn’t even my agent, he called me and said, ‘You have money, you need to put your money here,’” she continued. “And I didn’t even know how a movie was made. I was like, “What do you mean by gap financing?” But something I’ve learned, looking back, is that I like investing in people. You can tell me you’re going to open a chicken farm, but if you’re damn passionate about it and you’ve done the work and you know the market, then I mean (directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch) have done their job. They put in their 10,000 hours as stuntmen and second-unit directors; they had seen all the bad movies and knew how to make a good one. That’s it. They were undeniably passionate and I knew they were going to create an unmistakable product.”

When asked if she still receives checks from her “John Wick” investment, Longoria replied: “Yes. What I’m pissed about is that I was disconnected from the rest. This was a one-off. That was the gamble. But that was my only mistake: I wasn’t attached to all the films.”

The success of 2014’s “John Wick” spawned a franchise that has since grossed a billion dollars across four films. Although Longoria wasn’t involved in any of the sequels, the franchise’s continued popularity keeps the 2014 original in constant viewing so the checks keep coming in for her. So how much did she earn?

“You know, I should check. Certainly more than double ($6 million),” Longoria replied.

As the secret hero behind the “John Wick” franchise, Longoria said it’s always fun to run into the film’s directors or star Keanu Reeves in Hollywood.

“(Keanu and I) met because of his girlfriend, Alexandra. We know her through some friends, and we met her and Keanu at an art event,” Longoria recalled. “Keanu said, ‘I’d like to take you out to dinner; we need to celebrate 10 years.” So we toasted ‘John Wick.’”
