Heavy rain hits Chennai, downpour in Bengaluru affects Ind vs New Zealand Test match | Latest news India

As rain continues to lash southern India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued code yellow for heavy rainfall in Chennai and Bengaluru on Saturday, October 19. Images from the city show incessant rainfall leading to flooding on roads.

Bengaluru, on the other hand, woke up to a misty morning on Saturday, giving the city a refreshing hill station feel. The temperature is currently 23°C, with forecasts of a minimum of 20.49°C and a maximum of 26.67°C later in the day.

New rain shower in Chennai

Earlier, several areas of Chennai recorded extremely heavy rainfall till 8:30 am on Thursday morning. Kathivakkam and Manali recorded 23 cm and 21 cm rainfall respectively, while Cholavaram recorded 30 cm, Red Hills 28 cm and Avadi 25 cm.

An orange alert has been issued for several districts in Tamil Nadu including Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakkurichi, Thiruvannamalai, Ranipettai, Vellore, Tiruppattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai and Kanyakumari, as well as Pondicherry.

Rain in Tamil Nadu: Stalin government vs AIADMK on flood mitigation

After heavy rains lashed parts of Tamil Nadu, leading to a flood-like situation, the main opposition AIADMK targeted the MK Stalin-led DMK government over flood mitigation initiatives.

Prime Minister Stalin said it was just an attempt to politicize the issue and asserted that the government is ready to handle any amount of rain.

Bengaluru is raining

According to the weather department, Bengaluru will receive heavy rainfall for a week and an alert has already been issued for the city on Saturday.

The forecast indicated that this wet weather will continue until October 24, with highs around 28 degrees Celsius and lows around 20 degrees Celsius.

Drizzle has been reported in Whitefield, Kalyan Nagar, Jayanagar and Padmanabhanagar from 3 pm onwards.

Rain in Bengaluru hampers Ind vs NZ cricket match

Rain in Bengaluru once again affected the opening match between India and New Zealand on Day 4, denting the hosts’ chances of a miraculous turnaround in Bengaluru. However, after a brief interruption, play resumed at 4pm on Saturday. But there is a chance that the game will be hampered by rain again.
