As the Queen of Halloween, Heidi Klum knows what it takes to pull off a mind-boggling costume, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have to jump over some hurdles to execute them to perfection.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the grand opening of Crazy Pizza in New York on Oct. 29, the 51-year-old supermodel revealed that there was one costume she had an accident with. “When I was an apple, like, you know, Seal and he was Eve,” she said, describing her couple’s costume with her ex from way back when.

In 2006, the America has talent The judge dressed in an oversized apple costume because she was eight months pregnant at the time with her and now ex-husband Seal’s son Johan. “I wanted to make sure nothing could hurt the baby,” she explained.

The only downside to the size of the outfit? Going to the party.

“Look, I didn’t fit in anywhere, so I couldn’t go through a normal car door. So at the last minute they had to get me a convertible so I could even get in the car and drive there,” she said.

Running into a wardrobe malfunction is always something Klum thinks about when she steps onto the carpet at her famous Halloween parties, which she has hosted almost every year since 2000.

“I always get worried,” Klum told PEOPLE. “Because there is no real process. I can’t really fit until I’m in it. Because I only know on the day(s) if it works. And then you know, and then something happens and I’m like, ‘Oh god.’ ”

Nevertheless, it’s safe to say that Klum gets it right every time, and it’s all down to the amount of preparation she does for that one spooky night of the year.

In September, the mother of four revealed that she had been working on shaping her appearance for months at the time.

In true Heidi Klum fashion, this year’s outfit will include special effects makeup — but she didn’t tease anything else, which means we’ll have to wait until the big reveal.

Last year, Klum took her style to new heights when she wore a peacock look, complete with a hyper-realistic bird head, while her husband, Tom Kaulitz, was an egg. She was also accompanied by an ensemble of Cirque Du Soleil acrobats.
