High surf advisory for Mobile and Baldwin counties through Thursday afternoon – breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet are expected

At 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, a high surf warning was issued by the National Weather Service, effective from 6 a.m. through Thursday afternoon for Mobile and Baldwin counties.

The weather service notes, “Large breaking waves of four to six feet are expected in the surf zone.”

“Flooding of properties, parks and roads, with only isolated road closures expected. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can carry even the best swimmers away from shore and into deeper water,” the weather service said. If travel is necessary, please allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary measures to protect flood-prone properties. Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water due to dangerous situations. Surfing conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself in a rapid, do not swim against the current. If possible, swim in the direction that follows the shoreline. If you cannot escape, look towards the shore and shout or wave for help.”
