LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Valley is preparing for a high wind warning on Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning Sunday, which is expected to last until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Wind gusts are expected to range from 25 to 35 km/h, but could reach up to 50 km/h. At elevations above 8,000 feet, wind gusts in excess of 55 mph are expected.

Currently, the FAA has issued a 45-minute ground delay for departing flights from Harry Reid International Airport. According to FlightAware, 117 flights have been delayed so far this morning.

Meteorologists are advising valley residents to secure loose items and remain vigilant for downed trees and power lines. Power outages are also expected across the valley.

Outside the valley, the NWS notes that the first freeze of the season could kill crops or sensitive outdoor vegetation. Unprotected outdoor pipes can also be at risk.

Those traveling on highways and highways are urged to exercise caution as winds can make travel difficult.
