The lovely three-day weekend is over and I hope all of you lovely Strandistarians had a lovely extra day off to spend with friends and family, or just play video games or get out into nature. We have another Strands grid to solve now that we’re back in the daily grind, and this one is a bit tricky!

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that covers two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which moves from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the theme of the day.

This one really surprised me, even after opting for a few hints. For some reason the theme and the first few words – ECHO and WAVE – didn’t remind me of the NATO ALPHABET (today’s spangram). But when I got BRAVO and then TANGO, I finally knew. I tried ALPHA and when that gray came back I tried ALPHABET. Still a no-go, I filled in all the other words: FOXTROT, DELTA, VICTOR. I could finally see NATO for ALPHABET. Tough but fun Strands puzzle!
