Hollywood Brown could return in time for the postseason

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs took a major step to strengthen the wide receiving corps at a much-needed point midway through the regular season. It turns out they may get another big boost towards the end of the season.

If things work out favorably for the Chiefs, NFL reporter James Palmer says the team might be able to get Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on the field for them in time for the postseason run.

Entering the 2024 season, the Chiefs placed Brown in free agency as their top offensive target, and he immediately began showing real chemistry with Patrick Mahomes during offseason training activities and private workouts with the Chiefs quarterback.

However, once the preseason started, Brown suffered a sternoclavicular injury when he was tackled after making his first ever catch in live competition. He was later ruled out for several weeks, leading to a stint on injured reserve that required subsequent surgery and stretched his timeline to a lost season.

That said, according to Palmer, it appears the idea may have spread too quickly. Considering the Chiefs are playing regularly into February, the calendar is extended for a potential return to the field for a player like Brown. And given the Chiefs’ needs at the position, having Brown back in the fold and ready to play when it matters most would certainly be a very welcome sight.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs traded for DeAndre Hopkins in a deal with the Tennessee Titans just two weeks before the NFL trade deadline. After losing Brown and Rashee Rice this season, the need was there and that was before JuJu Smith-Schuster was also ruled out short-term with a hamstring injury.

Brown had 51 catches for 574 receiving yards for the Arizona Cardinals in 14 games last season.
