Horror star ‘Candyman’ and ‘Final Destination’ has died at the age of 69

Tony Todd, the star of the 1992 horror film “Candyman” whose flair for the macabre is also on display in the “Final Destination” films, has died.

The actor was 69 when he died in Los Angeles, Deadline reports.

Todd, who had a career that spanned four decades, played the titular serial killer in “Candyman,” starring Virginia Madsen.

His deep voice and six-foot-tall frame posed an imposing threat to Madsen’s character Helen Lyle in the film, directed by Bernard Rose and written by Rose and Clive Barker.

Todd reprized the role in the 2021 sequel to Candyman, directed by Nia DaCosta.

The actor, born in Washington, DC, made his feature film debut in 1986.

Todd had a role in the Oscar-winning film ‘Platoon’, directed by Oliver Stone. He played sergeant. Warren in the film, which won best picture.

He also played Ben in Tom Savini’s 1990 remake of ‘Night of the Living Dead’, and Grange in the dark superhero story ‘The Crow’ (1994) starring Brandon Lee.

Todd would play William Bludworth, the funeral home owner in “Final Destination” (2000) and its sequels.

His other film credits include “Lean on Me” (1989) and the Oscar-nominated “The Rock” (1996).

On TV, he played Kurn in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” TV reporter Matt Rhodes in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and CIA Director Graham in “Chuck.”

Todd’s many other TV roles include appearances on ‘The X-Files’, ‘MacGyver’, ’21 Jump Street’, ‘Law & Order’, ‘NYPD Blue’, ‘Murder, She Wrote’, ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ and “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

He had more recent roles in ‘Room 104’, ‘Riverdale’, ‘The Orville’ and ‘Scream: Resurrection’.

Todd also voiced characters in series such as Netflix’s ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ and ‘Dota: Dragon’s Blood’, as well as in video games including ‘Spider-Man 2’ (as Venom), ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation: Klingon’ . Honor Guard” (as Kurn) and “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” (as Admiral Tommy Briggs).
