The shock horror film Scarer 3 opens domestically this week after sending British audiences into an uproar at its premiere.

Scarer 3of course, is writer-director Damien Leone’s third film More frightening horror film series that started in 2016. Scarer 2 was released in 2022.

Starring David Howard Thornton as the homicidal madman from the film series, Art the Clown, Scarer 3According to the film’s British distributor Signature Entertainment, eleven spectators had to go to the exit early last week during the film’s premiere in Britain. The French Film Classification Commission also imposed strict ratings Scarer 3 that prohibits spectators under the age of 18 from seeing the film in theaters.

Signature Entertainment posted a sign outside the premiere warning the public Terrific 3s “excessive violence and excessive bloodshed.”

The distributor added a post to its X account on Wednesday showing audience reaction to scenes from the film More frightening British premiere.

Scarer 3 takes place during the Christmas period. The film’s official logline reads: “After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna (Lauren LeVera) and her brother struggle to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holidays approach, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and put the horrors of the past behind them.

“But just when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday feeling into another nightmare. The festive season unfolds quickly as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.

‘Terrifier 3’ has received high marks from critics so far

As of Wednesday Rotten Tomatoes Critics are widely embracing Terrifier 3, giving the film an 82% “fresh” rating based on 39 reviews.

While it is still a healthy assessment, the RT Tomato meter review for Scarer 3 dropped six percentage points from a week ago, when 16 critics who screened the film at various film festivals collectively gave it an 88% “new” rating.

Among the individual reviews of RT Critics, IndieWire critic Alison Foreman writes: “Scarer 3 decorates the halls with a triumphant celebration that is gruesome for all the right reasons and makes clear what (Damien) Leone does extremely well. That may or may not convince people, but it should not lose repeat customers.”

Kim Newman from Empire magazine also gives Scarer 3 a “new” review, but it comes with a warning: it manages to go further over the top and push more insulting buttons than you think possible, this is only recommended for the strong stomached and the hard-hearted.”

Ian Sandwell also has a ‘fresh’ take on the film and writes for it in his review Digital spy“Scarer 3 is the strongest performance for Art the Clown yet and possibly the most offensive, which a More frightening film, is a seal of approval. Merry damn Christmas.”

From Collider Russ Bonaime is one of the film’s few detractors RT so far in his ‘rotten’ review he wrote: ‘The budget could have increased by up to ten times that More frightening had, and the murders have become even more gruesome Scarer 3 is still the same mixed bag that this franchise has always been.

It doesn’t matter if Terrific 3s RT’s Tomatometer continues to drop or possibly rise again as more reviews are posted, the film is poised to make a killing – so to speak – at this weekend’s box office.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that in a recent interview with Damien Leone Scarer 3 had a budget of $2 million before print and advertising. For comparison: Scarer 2, THR noted, earned $15.8 million in 2022 against a pre-P&A budget of $250,000.

Scarer 3which is unrated, opens domestically on Friday. Per Golden derby, Scarer 3 opens in 2,500 theaters in the US and Canada.
