People like to complain about how long Call of duty campaigns are even though most people never finish them and instead just play the multiplayer deathmatch meat grinder. Still, Call of Duty: Black Ops6 promises a series of story-based missions that should last longer than either Cold War And Modern Warfare IIIboth of which feature some of the shortest campaigns in the entire franchise.

Earlier this year, Treyarch developer Yale Miller announced told Game file the BlackOps6 campaign would last as long as a ‘classic’ Call of dutysuggesting it would take about six to eight hours. Co-developer Raven Software recently doubled down on that rating, promising fans it would last longer Cold War‘s campaign that lasted just five hours.

“So I think the game time varies from player to player, but even if you try to play the speedrun version of it, it will be longer than Cold War”, associate creative director Jon Zuk told IGN this week. Differences in players’ clocks likely come down to the amount of time they spend hanging out in the game’s safehouse hub between missions.

Call of Duty campaigns have historically lasted an average of six to seven hoursbut the Black operations spin-offs averaged much higher at their peak. Black operations 3 was about nine hours to beat, while BlackOps4 has ditched a conventional campaign altogether, much to the chagrin of some players. Activision has continued to throw more and more bodies Call of duty to pump them out year after year, but it’s becoming clear with each new console generation that producing full-fledged, high-quality story content for each new annual sequel becomes a challenge.

Another way BlackOps6 breaks with the recent past by ending early access for his campaign. Instead, the story missions will go live for everyone at the same time when it releases on October 25 at 12:01 PM ET. The game will also appear on Game Pass Ultimate, although Microsoft recently disabled the $1 trial for new subscribers.
