How the season 2 premiere explains Teddi’s absence

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from CBS’ Season 2 premiere Follower.

The season 2 premiere of Follower gives the audience an answer to the question why Teddi Bruin will not be present much to help Colter Shaw with his business of the week.

Robin Weigert, who played Teddi in the first season, retired as a regular prior to season 2.

While the premiere episode doesn’t go into much detail, it does explain that Teddi is out of town to help her mother.

“She’s going to be there for a while,” Abby McEnany’s Velma Bruin, Teddi’s wife, tells Colter on the phone in the first few minutes of the episode. “She helps her mother with arranging everything.”

Justin Hartley’s Colter points out that Velma had to go back and forth between home and wherever Teddi is, but Velma says she felt like she was “in the way,” so she decided to come back and put herself to work to help Colter again. .

It’s not clear if this means Weigert will appear this season, or if Teddi will stay with her mother for the long term.

Teddi is a former tour manager for rock musicians who has now settled in middle-aged North Florida with her wife and a bunch of pets. Together, Teddi and Velma run Colter’s “back end”: finding new jobs, keeping track of the money, and occasionally bailing him out of jail.

In the premiere, Velma helps Colter track down a family of four who vanishes from Pine Bluffs, Arkansas, seemingly out of thin air. Velma says in the episode that she will also help Reenie (Fiona Rene) open her own criminal law office this season.

New episodes of Follower airs Sundays at 8pm ET/PT.
