Who will choose the qualifiers for the Miss Universe grand final?

During the preliminary rounds in the Mexican capital the Miss Universe selection committee will choose 29 of the 30 semifinalists which advance to the weekend’s main event, including four continental queens (for Latin America and the Caribbean; Europe; Africa; and Asia and Oceania). The remaining qualifying match for the Grand Final will be determined by a vote of the fans.

The pageant’s organizers have revealed that there will be no evening gown competition during Thursday’s preliminary rounds; delegates will parade only in swimsuits and traditional costumes. In the grand final, the top 30 are reduced to 12, who take to the stage in evening wear. Five finalists then compete in a question-and-answer round, with the winner of this question-and-answer session being declared the new Miss Universe.

How can I watch the Miss Universe preliminaries in the US?

In the United States the preliminary Miss Universe competition airs today, November 14, starting at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT on the free Spanish-language network Telemundo. According to the broadcaster, viewers can watch the event live via the Telemundo app, Telemundo.com/MissUniverso, Telemundo’s YouTube channel and the broadcaster’s Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok accounts.

English-language coverage of the preliminaries is available through the Miss Universe Organization YouTube channelbut this one is for members only. To access this content you will need a ‘VIP Emerald’ or ‘VIP Diamond’ subscription to the channel, priced at $19.99/month and $29.99/month respectively.

Just like the grand finale, the preliminary match will be held at the Arena Ciudad de México, with a capacity of 22,000 peoplewith former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and TV host Mario Lopez as presenters.

Thirteen people will be part of the selection committee during the 73rd edition of the election.
