There’s hope in the air in Lincoln as Nebraska enters the Dylan Raiola era with Saturday’s game against UTEP. Raiola is a 6-foot-1, 225-pound former five-star recruit who takes over at quarterback for the Cornhuskers, who are coming off a 5-7 season and debuted Rhule in 2023. They continued their efforts to replenish a roster that was thin on talent when Rhule arrived, but added 31 players in a 2024 recruiting class that was ranked No. 18 in the nation in the 247Sports composite rankings. Raiola was the best player of that group as the No. 2 quarterback and No. 7 player overall.

UTEP was 3-9 last season and 2-6 in Conference USA, starting 1-5 and ending the season with three straight losses to Western Kentucky (21-13), Middle Tennessee (34-30) and then-No. 25 Liberty (42-28). The Miners also went 0-2 against Power 4 teams with losses to Northwestern (38-7) and Arizona (31-10) in back-to-back games.
