DETROIT – After another win over the New York Islanders, the Detroit Red Wings return home Wednesday night to begin a three-game homestand as they host the Calgary Flames.

The Red Wings closed out their season series at the Isles last Monday night with three unanswered goals in the third period on Long Island, allowing the team to complete the sweep of the Islanders with a 4-2 victory. Simon Edvinsson and Moritz Seider each provided a goal and an assist, Lucas Raymond and captain Dylan Larkin also found the back of the net, while Alex Lyon put in another fine performance.

Despite their success against lower teams in the Metropolitan Division, Detroit needs to show they can match up with some of the better teams in the league. Heading into Wednesday, the Wings sit sixth in the Atlantic, eight points out of first place.

The Flames will certainly be a worthy test. The team was one of the hottest teams in the NHL during the opening weeks of the year (pun intended), but has since cooled off. Yet they are still one of the top teams in the Pacific Division. After a tough loss Monday to the Ottawa Senators, the first of a four-game road trip east, the Flames sit second in the Pacific, three points behind the first-place Vegas Golden Knights.

This will be the first of two meetings this year between the Red Wings and Flames. Detroit has won four in a row against Calgary dating back to the 2022-2023 campaign.
