With the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris recently concluded, the sporting world is turning its sights to the Paralympic Games.

The 2024 Paralympic Games will also be held in Paris, starting with the Opening Ceremony on August 28. The Paralympic Games will feature 22 sports and 225 members of Team USA, including five guides. The team has won a total of 122 gold medals over the years.

This year’s team includes Paralympic sprinter and former medallist Hunter Woodhall, who announced on social media platform Threads on August 15 that he tested positive for COVID-19.

“That’s no excuse. I’m going to kick this thing and then I’ll be ready for the Paralympics,” he added.

Woodhall has been providing updates on Threads, documenting his first run since his diagnosis. He said on August 21 that “things are just coming together at the right time.”

Team USA also features veterans such as 29-time Paralympic medalist Jessica Long (swimming), Tatyana McFadden (track and field) and Oksana Masters, the most decorated Winter Paralympic athlete of all time, who will compete in road cycling.

Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, said in a press release announcing the selection on Aug. 19 that “their journey to the pinnacle of their careers is a testament to their unwavering dedication and tireless pursuit of excellence.”

“We’ve seen what Paris has to offer athletes from around the world as they compete, and sports fans as they celebrate the very best in elite competition,” Hirshland added. “Now we’re eagerly anticipating the extraordinary moments and awe-inspiring Paralympic competition ahead, and we can’t wait for Team USA to show the world what they can do.”

When do the Paralympic Games start?

The Games will begin on August 28 with the Opening Ceremony at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The first day of competition is August 29.

How can I watch the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony?

More than 4,000 athletes, representing 184 delegations, will take part in the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony on August 28 at 2:00 p.m. (ET).

The event will be broadcast live on USA Network and streamed live on Peacock beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Highlights from the opening ceremony will air in primetime on NBC and Peacock on August 30 at 9 p.m. ET.

How can I watch the Paralympic Games?

Peacock will stream more than 1,500 hours of live coverage of all 22 Paralympic sports during the 12-day event, NBC Sports announced in May.

Aug 29 – Day 1 Highlights

Para-cycling track (9:45 a.m. ET): Several men’s and women’s races take place in the late morning Eastern time. While the races earlier in the day are qualifying events, the later races are medal events, including the men’s 4000m individual pursuit and the women’s 3000m individual pursuit.

For taekwondo (11:00 a.m. ET): The first taekwondo finals for both men and women are held under the dome of the Grand Palais.
