Hundreds of ballots damaged after Vancouver mailbox was set on fire, officials say

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) – Police are investigating after a ballot box was set on fire in Vancouver early Monday morning.

The fire was started in the C-TRAN Park & ​​Ride at the Fisher’s Landing Transit Center. It was reported that someone taped a device to the outside of the box which started the fire.

Election officials say hundreds of ballots have been burned.

The last time ballots were removed from the mailbox was on Saturday, October 26 at 11am. Anyone who has a ballot dropped off after 11 a.m. Saturday should contact the Clark County elections office.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Arson Team and Vancouver Fire Marshals responded.

This is the second ballot box fire that police have responded to in the Portland metro area. About 3:30 a.m., Portland police responded to a fire at a ballot box near the Multnomah County elections office.

The FBI is investigating this incident and the one in Portland:

“The FBI is working with federal, state and local partners to actively investigate the two incidents in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon, in the early morning hours of Monday, October 28, to determine who is responsible.
