    Strong winds and rainfall continue as Hurricane Helene — which made landfall as a Category 4 storm — moves northwest through the Carolinas into Kentucky and Indiana this weekend.

    For those planning to watch the Indiana University Hoosiers take on the University of Maryland Terrapins on Saturday at noon — and hopefully continue their undefeated 4-0 winning streak this season — here’s what they need to know about how the storm could affect the match.

    Will the IU-Maryland game be canceled due to the storm?

    No. As of Friday morning, IU has not announced any plans to cancel or postpone its afternoon game against the Maryland Terrapins at Memorial Stadium due to inclement weather.

    IU typically only cancels or postpones games in the event of severe weather, including lightning and thunder.

    Any updates to cancellations or delays will be posted on the IU Athletics website at iuhoosiers.com/sports/football/schedule.

    Are umbrellas and ponchos allowed in IU’s Memorial Stadium?

    Umbrellas are not allowed in IU Memorial Stadium, but raincoats and ponchos are allowed.

    Is tailgating allowed for the IU vs. Maryland game?

    Yes. As of Friday morning, IU has not banned or discouraged tailgating in the Memorial Stadium parking lot before the game.

    However, the National Weather Service of Indianapolis encourages motorists to remember that high-profile vehicles such as campers, RVs and trucks with cargo trailers or other towing vehicles are at particular risk from wind gusts.
