Husker OH Merritt Beason took 1st overall in the Pro Volleyball Federation draft

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Nebraska outside hitter Merritt Beason was drafted first overall by the Atlanta Vibe on Monday morning in the second-ever 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation draft.

Beason, an outgoing senior for John Cook’s squad, has averaged 3.0 kills per set this season while hitting at a .246 clip. In mid-October, she had a season-high 22 kills against Purdue. She was a 2023 AVCA All-American and an All-Big Ten First team member.

The Atlanta Vibe traded up to get the first pick for Beason. The Atlanta Vibe are coached by former Husker Kayla Banwarth.

The PVF consists of eight teams: the Indy Ignite, San Diego Mojo, Vegas Thrill, Columbus Fury, Omaha Supernovas, Atlanta Vibe, Orlando Valkyries and Grand Rapids Rise.
