‘I let my emotions get the best of me’

Rachel Zegler revisited her response to Donald Trump’s re-election on Friday, writing on social media that she “let my emotions get the better of me” in an earlier post criticizing Trump voters.

Previously, the star of ‘Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ wrote: ‘May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.’ In the same message, she also wrote that there is a “deep, deep sickness in this country.” She ended her original post with “f–k Donald Trump.”

“I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on Instagram last week. I let my emotions get the better of me. Hate and anger have pushed us further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry for contributing to the negative discourse,” the actress posted on Instagram Stories on Thursday evening.

The actor went on to say that she believes everyone is entitled to their opinion “even if it differs from mine.” “I am determined to make a positive contribution to a better future,” concludes Zegler.

Zegler’s comments sparked backlash when the actor was set to star in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of “Snow White.” The fantasy musical premieres on March 25. Megyn Kelly was one of Zegler’s many detractors in the wake of her original post, calling the actress a “pig.”

It is unclear how this controversy will affect Zegler’s career and ‘Snow White’ as a whole. Historically, Disney seems to prefer its stars to remain apolitical, especially the stars of its biggest properties and children’s projects. The company famously fired ‘The Mandalorian’ star Gina Carano after she compared hating someone for their political views to the persecution the Jewish people faced during the Holocaust.

But the company may be hesitant to take decisive action against Zegler precisely because of what happened with Carano. Earlier this year, the actor filed a lawsuit for sex discrimination and wrongful termination against Lucasfilm. Despite attempts by Disney to dismiss the case, the trial will take place next September.
