“I told him to get rid of it.”

Martha Stewart opened up about her life with director RJ Cutler for her Netflix documentary Marta.

However, the media mogul is not completely satisfied with the final version of her documentary and called out the director for not editing certain scenes that she did not like.

‘Those last scenes where I look like a lonely old lady hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to put that away,” Stewart told the paper New York Times. “And he refused. I hate those last scenes. Hate them.”

Although Stewart was unhappy with the final scenes, she did admit that she loved “the first half of the documentary.”

Stewart also criticized the second half of the documentary, which focuses on the insider trading allegations and obstruction of justice that landed her in federal prison.

“It wasn’t that important,” Stewart said. “The trial and actual incarceration took less than two years of an 83-year-old life. I considered it a vacation, to tell you the truth… the process itself was extremely boring. Even the judge fell asleep. RJ didn’t even put that in there. The judge was sleeping on the court. I wrote it in my diary every day.”

Stewart’s other complaint, which she found “shocking,” was that the director used “very little” material from her personal archive. The celebrity chef also called out that her grandchildren were left out, saying: “It’s not even a question.”

Stewart also said that she requested that rap music be used in the documentary, but the director did not comply.

“I said to RJ, ‘An essential part of the film is that you play rap music.’ Dr. Dre will probably score it, or (Snoop Dogg) or Fredwreck. I said, ‘I want that music.’ And then he gets a crappy classical score on top of that, which has nothing to do with me,” she said in the interview.

Despite Stewart’s criticism, she hopes that the documentary inspires women, something she is already experiencing.

“So many girls have told me – young women – that watching it gave them a strength they didn’t know they had,” she said. “And that’s what I like most about the documentary. It really shows a strong woman standing up for herself and going through both horror and great success.”

Cutler has directed other documentaries featuring personalities such as Billie Eilish, Dick Cheney and Elton John, with the latest work premiering on Disney+ in December.

While the director did not comment on Stewart’s specific complaints, he said, “I’m really proud of this film and I admire Martha’s courage in entrusting me with the job of making it.” I’m not surprised it’s hard for her to see aspects of it.

Cutler noticed that Marta is “a movie, not a Wikipedia page,” adding, “It’s the story of an incredibly interesting human being who is complicated, visionary and brilliant.”
