In return for the radio, Jerry Jones made it clear that these Dallas Cowboys are not in a good place

Jerry Jones was on point Tuesday morning.

The Cowboys owner and general manager, while joking with the morning crew of 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) about their banter from the week before and host RJ Choppy missing this week’s show due to an excused absence – “wanted he avoid confrontation? ” – put the Derrick Henry issue to rest.

Jones said something else that made you agree with him: His football team isn’t in a good place.

In reality, that’s what we need to talk about.

Jones said the offensive concepts and designs may need to be refined, and he didn’t dismiss Hall of Fame wide receiver quarterback Troy Aikman’s poor assessment.

Jones also didn’t use the 49ers’ health issues as an opening for his Cowboys team to win Sunday night in San Francisco.

On Tuesday, Jones spoke the truth about his football team.

“Our situation is honestly more about keeping your blocks, it’s more about not making mistakes,” he said. “It’s more about, in my mind, the receivers having to go through tough man-to-man coverage and get through that and, if you will, get away from that. The kind of things we all think we need to look at is: (are) are we designing bad plays or are we designing bad concepts? The facts are that there is some of that, but there is also some of the execution. There are some talents. I like our talent. I really like our talent. I love our young talent, but with young talent there are a few more mistakes than when you are dealing with an experienced player, although you do have to have young talent.”

You may disagree with Jones saying that Henry wouldn’t fit within the confines of the Cowboys’ salary cap, but please don’t ignore what he says about the running back’s expected results on the football field.

Henry wouldn’t fit in with the West Coast offense. At least, as Mike McCarthy calls it.

This is nothing against the Cowboys head coach, but history shows he has never had a running back quite like Henry.

Who has that, right?

“I don’t think we’re playing very good football at all right now and it goes beyond whether we have Derrick Henry or not,” Jones said. “Derrick Henry is having a career year. I don’t know if he would have that career year in our situation.”

So yes, Henry could lead the NFL in rushing, but it doesn’t seem realistic that he would have the same numbers as a member of the Cowboys. It’s fun to dream about it. However, it’s just time for everyone to move on here, and this is where the Cowboys owner is right.

During the bye week, McCarthy said there was a review of how the Cowboys operate. It’s something he always does. He is good at making sure the Cowboys correct their mistakes. He protects his players in the media when necessary. He is everything a player looks for in a head coach.

McCarthy disagreed with Aikman’s description of his receivers as terrible route runners and lazy outside the line of scrimmage.

In theory, anyone can play better.

That was Jones’ point. Over the next eleven weeks of this season, the Cowboys must take care of their business or more truth will be revealed.
