India at the Paris Olympics, Day 4: Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured a bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event to add a second medal to India’s tally on Day 4. New Delhi: India witnessed yet another eventful day at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Tuesday, July 30, as several athletes performed well in their respective sports disciplines. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh claimed India’s second medal at the Games after winning a historic bronze medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. Manu and Sarabjot became the first Indian pair to win a team gold for India in shooting at the Olympics.

Manu won her second gold medal at the Paris Olympics after winning a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol last week to open India’s medal tally at the Games. She wrote her name in the history books by becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics. She also became the first Indian to win two medals in a single edition of the Games after Independence.

Manu and Sarabjot, who finished third in the qualifying round, defeated Korean duo Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho 16-10 in the bronze medal match to finish third on the podium and win India’s second medal of the Games. The duo gave India a great start to the Games on Day 4 before the likes of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Bhajan Kaur and the Indian hockey team also recorded important victories.

Indian hockey team beats Ireland 2-0, advances to quarterfinals

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh led from the front and scored two goals to help the Indian men’s hockey team beat Ireland 2-0 in their Pool B match at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. India continued their unbeaten run in the tournament with the win. Later in the day, Argentina’s 2-0 win over New Zealand helped India qualify for the quarterfinals in the men’s hockey.

Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy storm into quarterfinals

Indian badminton men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their fantastic run at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Tuesday. Chirag-Sawtik defeated Indonesia’s Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian 21-13, 21-13 in straight games to win their group and reach the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles. Chirag-Satwik, one of the strongest medal contenders for India in badminton, will be hoping to continue their fantastic run in the knockout stages.

Bhajan Kaur reaches women’s recurve archery round of 16

Indian archer Bhajan Kaur put in an impressive performance on Day 4 of the Paris Games to reach the round of 16 of the women’s individual recurve archery. She defeated Syifa Nurafifah Kamal of Indonesia and Wioleta Myszor of Poland in her first two rounds to reach the quarterfinals. However, her compatriot Ankita Bhakat lost 4-6 to Myszor in the opening round and withdrew from the competition.

Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto loses

Women’s doubles badminton pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto suffered their third straight defeat, losing 15-21, 10-21 to Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu, and are therefore out of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Amit Panghal and Jaismine Lamboria lose in boxing

Indian boxers had a dismal day at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. Amit Panghal lost his opening bout to Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba and retired from the competition. The Zambian boxer defeated Panghal 4-1 in the men’s 51kg round of 16 bout.

Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio convincingly defeated India’s Jasmine Lamboria in the women’s 57kg class in the 32nd round, which means she will no longer be able to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
