Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Rochester Museum and Science Center celebrated Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, with activities featuring Indigenous-created content and activities.

The event included a self-guided story corner with Indigenous authors, a land recognition exhibit, a sensory room and more. Visiting children and families could learn about the rich history of the Hodinöšyö:nih people.

The Roundhouse Shelter at Genesee Valley Park also hosted all-day events for Indigenous Peoples Day.

The festivities began at 7 a.m. with a sunrise ceremony, including a Thanksgiving speech and the telling of the creation story. Arts and crafts demonstrations, live music and storytelling followed.
