Injury notes: Hartenstein, Pelicans, N. Powell, P. Williams

One of the summer’s top free agent signings could make his debut for his new team as early as Wednesday night. As ESPN’s Tim MacMahon tells (via Twitter): Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein has been upgraded to questionable for the first time this season.

Hartenstein played in three preseason games with the Thunder last month but broke his left hand just before the regular season started. The club said at the time that he would be re-evaluated in about five to six weeks. That was just under five weeks ago, so if Hartenstein is activated for Wednesday’s game with Portland, he would beat his initial recovery timeline.

It’s worth noting that Oklahoma City has four days off after Wednesday’s game before beginning a four-game road trip in Sacramento on Monday, so if Hartenstein doesn’t play against Portland, he still has a few days to settle in to prepare. for his season debut. His return will be a huge boon for a Thunder team that has also been missing centers Chet Holmgren And Jaylin Williams due to injuries and could use a frontcourt presence.

Here are a few more health-related updates from around the NBA:

  • The PelicansThe list of injured continues to grow. The team is already missing six regular players and is excluded Brandon Ingram (bilateral ankle sprain) and Trey Murphy (management of right hamstring injuries) for the second end of a back-to-back set on Wednesday vs. Cleveland, per team release. Rookie center Yves Missiwho has featured in the club’s last ten matches is considered doubtful due to left shoulder pain.
  • Hair clippers wing Norman Powellwho was the team’s leading scorer so far this season with 23.3 points per game, has been ruled out for Wednesday’s game against Orlando due to a left hamstring strain, ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk tweeted. It is not yet known whether Powell will have to miss extra time after that match.
  • Bulls forward Patrick Williams will miss Wednesday’s game in Milwaukee after returning to Chicago before the end of the team’s road trip to undergo imaging on his sore left foot (story via ESPN). The Bulls called the testing precautionary and it doesn’t sound like they believe there’s any cause for concern, but it’s worth noting that Williams underwent surgery on that same foot in February.
