Investigation shows the former CCSD Trustee moved to Nebraska in April

News 3 has obtained the investigative documents surrounding a Clark County School District trustee who resigned last month after being accused of living out of state.

The documents come from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department through a records request related to their investigation into former trustee Katie Williams.

Investigators say the former trustee, who represented District B, moved to Nebraska starting in April and planned to move starting in March.

In the report, LVMPD also requested that an arrest warrant be issued for Williams for unlawful exercise of power.

Documents show that between April 3 and August 8, Williams filed motions, influenced decisions or had a casting vote on the school board even though he was no longer a “true resident” of Nevada.

The investigation came at the request of the Clark County District Attorney’s office after several trustees and community advocates requested an investigation.

District Attorney Steve Wolfson sent Katie Williams a letter on September 4 asking her to resign. She did so a week later after Wolfson petitioned the court but denied that she lived out of state.

The investigative report, signed in mid-September, shows that Williams enrolled her daughter in the Nebraska school system in March for the upcoming school year.

Investigators discovered that Williams’ current address is in Gretna, Nebraska, and noted that her fiancé purchased that home on March 18, 2024.

It also states that Williams’ fiancée provided a notarized letter stating that Williams and her daughter would live with him at his home in Nebraska starting March 19.

Investigators say they have confirmed with the US Postal Service that Williams filed a change of address from her home in Nevada to Nebraska on April 13.

Other indicators police found that led them to believe Williams lived in Nebraska include social media posts in April that showed she was working with a Nebraska-based law firm that has no offices in Nevada.

Police discovered that Williams’ energy consumption also dropped at her North Las Vegas home between February and April.

Documents show investigators also conducted four surveillance operations at her North Las Vegas home in early June. There were no cars or people going in and out at that time.

One question the investigation doesn’t answer, a question many people are asking: Did anyone in the district know Williams lived out of state?

Williams tells News 3 the district attorney’s office has denied a request for prosecution and no warrant has been issued for her arrest.

“I also hope that LVMPD will investigate how this found its way to the media with the same passion they tried to pursue me with,” Williams said in a text message.

News 3 also reached out to CCSD representatives to ask if her votes since April will be reconsidered. This report will be updated if they respond.
