India’s dynamic young wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan is going through a tumultuous period in his cricket career. He was part of the 2023 ODI World Cup squad but has since disappeared from the Indian team. Moreover, it seems unlikely that he will be included in the Indian team anytime soon. Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Kishan pulled out of the team midway through the South Africa tour at the end of 2023, citing mental fatigue. BCCI was not happy with Kishan’s antics. Moreover, he was reportedly spotted partying at a club in Dubai and also skipped the domestic season to play directly in the IPL 2024. BCCI was furious with Kishan’s antics and even dropped him from the central contract list.

Ishan Kishan criticized by Basit Ali for ignoring his career

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali criticized Kishan for his antics and blamed him for his own downfall. He stated that Kishan is only focused on his fashion instead of cricket. That is why he has fallen down the pecking order.

“Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha (he also became a bit fashionable),” Basit said it on his YouTube channel.

India is currently in Sri Lanka to participate in a 3-game T20I series and a 3-match ODI series. The new era in T20I cricket has begun for Team India with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from the shortest format of the game after the World Cup. Gautam Gambhir is at the helm as head coach and India has already secured the T20I series 2-0 with one game to go.
