IAFTER-SERIES air and missile strikes in the early hours of August 25 brought their simmering conflict to a boiling point with Israel and Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia in Lebanon. For now, the strikes appear aimed at preventing all-out war, but it is a risky proposition. Just before 5 a.m., two waves of Israeli warplanes bombed dozens of Hezbollah rocket launch sites across southern Lebanon. Minutes later, Hezbollah launched at least 200 rockets and drones toward northern Israel. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted most of them. The few that got through caused minimal damage and no Israeli casualties.
