Israel struck a secret Iranian nuclear research facility in the October attack

The Israeli Air Force is believed to have attacked one of Iran’s secret nuclear research facilities as part of an operation that took place in late October, according to an Axios report on Friday that cited former and current US and Israeli officials.

According to the report, the attack caused significant damage to the site in the Parchin military complex, about 20 kilometers southeast of Tehran.

The attack dealt a major blow to Iran’s nuclear development efforts, officials quoted in the report claimed.

The facility was reportedly part of Iran’s Amad nuclear weapons program until 2003. It was then used to test explosives needed to detonate a nuclear weapon, the report said, citing the Institute for Science and International Security.

Iran refuses to comment

Axios also noted that a former Israeli official briefed on the attack said Israel destroyed advanced equipment needed and necessary for the nuclear devices.

In addition, the report said that Iran has reportedly denied using nuclear weapons. It also noted that Iran’s mission to the UN declined to comment on the Axios report.
