It’s basketball time: Spurs vs Lakers

Welcome to the gaming topic. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things here, but for all the newbies, we have a few rules. Us community guidelines apply and basically say: be cool, no personal attacks, no trolling and no swearing too much.

The NBA Cup is back this year and the Spurs will play their first game of this year’s tournament tonight against the Lakers in San Antonio. The Lakers won the NBA Cup last season, and with LeBron James still performing at an elite level as he approaches his 40th birthday, they should be one of the favorites again this year. Spurs lost all four of their cup games last year, and they’ll be looking to improve on that this year and make some noise in the mid-season tournament. It’s mainly for bragging rights, but there is a nice trophy and a financial bonus for the players that is especially meaningful for the players at the bottom of the rankings who are close to the NBA minimum.

Anthony Davis is the top scorer for LA, but he is dealing with an injury (plantar fasciitis). He is doubtful tonight, but if he plays he could provide an interesting defensive challenge for Victor Wembanyama. If we know anything about this year’s Spurs team, it’s that they can beat anyone and lose to anyone. Let’s hope they can keep the mistakes to a minimum and calm the anxiety tonight. It’s a quick turnaround for the Silver and Black as they travel to Dallas for a game against the Mavericks tomorrow night at 7:30 PM.

Play with Pounding the Rock:

Game Prediction:

Victor Wembanyama will welcome Bronny James to the NBA with a block party.
