Jamal Adams’ woeful run with Titans ends with anniversary release

Jamal Adams got his birthday wish.

The Titans released the former Jets safety, who turned 29 on Thursday, after he requested they do so, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Adams played in three of six games for the woeful Titans, recording four tackles in 20 snaps. NFL.com noted that Pro Football Focus gave Adams an unimpressive grade of 49.8 on those limited plays.

According to Schefter, Adams is healthy and “looking forward to his next opportunity.”

The question now becomes: will there be another chance?

Adams was released by the Seahawks last offseason and has seen a significant decline in his play since being All-Pro for three straight seasons from 2018-’20.

Adams saw limited playing time for a 1-4 Titans team that ranks among the NFL’s worst.

Adams’ departure from the team was announced when the Titans curiously placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list on Saturday, even though he was already out with a hip injury for the Week 6 game against the Colts.

“There are some things we are working on that are still ongoing. I’ll let that go for now,” Titans coach Brian Callahan told reporters Wednesday after the 20-17 loss to Indianapolis.

Adams signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with Tennessee this offseason.

The Jets drafted Adams with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and he was one of the stars and leaders on defense for three seasons.

The Jets then traded Adams to the Seahawks before the 2020 season for two first-round draft picks, a third-round pick and safety Bradley McDougald.
