Jarod Lucas connects with kids and families in Reno through bowling event

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – A performance from one of the Wolf Pack’s most recognizable faces.

On Monday night, Jarod Lucas stopped by National Bowling Stadium to try out a different sport and connect with kids and families.

Lucas is known as a shooter on the basketball court, but on the bowling alley his goal is to reach 100 points.

“Focus on the third sprint,” he laughed about the coaching his father gave him growing up.

The former Nevada star teamed up with Strikes for Kids and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, expecting 300 people for a night of bowling, face painting and fun.

“This community has given me so much in the two years that I’ve been playing basketball here,” Lucas said. “I thought something as small as this before I go on my next adventure would be cool. I’m definitely very fortunate to be able to give back.”

Jarod stopped at every lane to take pictures with fans.

“For us, it’s about raising awareness of children’s programs in our community and giving back, and how you can get involved,” said Derek Beauvais, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada. “We love it when the community comes out and supports us. It’s also a great opportunity for us to give out our contests so Big Brothers Big Sisters can participate in a fun event.”

There is a need for mentorship in our region.

“Our average match duration is over four years, so our matches stay together for a very long time because they build trusting relationships, have fun together and receive support through our community programs,” Beauvais added.
