Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was hunting under the influence in Kentucky days before his arrest.

Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence on Thursday, October 17, and booked into the Williamston County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee, according to TMZ. He was also charged with failure to exercise due care, violating the implied consent law and possessing a gun while intoxicated.

According to the outlet, Cutler rear-ended another vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated when he was stopped by police. He reportedly refused a field sobriety test but was taken to a hospital where a blood sample was taken. A report on Cutler’s blood alcohol content at the time of his arrest has been made public.

In the days leading up to his arrest, images on social media showed Cutler on a deer hunt in the neighboring state.

“Last night I drove to Kentucky,” Cutler said in a video posted via Instagram on Wednesday, October 16. “The weather dropped a bit, the temperature and pressure were high and the deer I hunted was from the last two evenings. We thought that now that the temperature was dropping, we might be able to come out a little earlier.”

According to the Instagram video, which was posted by Cutler’s clothing and lifestyle brand Outsider, the ex-Chicago Bears star was hunting a five-and-a-half-year-old white-tailed deer named Slim.

“He came out really early, around 5:15 a.m.,” Cutler continued. ‘I ran across the field after a couple. Walked off a few peaks and then came back out of range, chasing more deer. Finally within range around six o’clock. And smoked it.”

Cutler said the deer, which Outsider had been tracking for years, weighed 185 pounds.

“Jay got lucky in Kentucky last night!” the Instagram caption read.

The next day, however, Cutler was behind bars. He posted bond several hours later and was released.
