Jaylen Brown injury: Celtics star gets 2nd MRI (report)

While the Celtics were relatively healthy to open the season, except for Kristaps Porzingis, a lingering injury has affected one of their stars. Jaylen Brown revealed to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe that his left hip flexion problem has been bothering him since training camp.

Brown told Washburn that he had a flexor MRI two weeks ago and plans to have another in the coming days. The initial MRI revealed some fluid, Brown said, as that has affected his play through the opening weeks. Brown missed his first game of the season in the back-to-back against the Hornets on Saturday.

β€œI didn’t feel like my legs were underneath me because of this hip flexor,” Brown told the Globe. β€œIt affects my explosion and my outburst more. And then, mentally, trying to figure that out too. Thinking about it messes everything up a bit, but I’ll be fine.

Brown is averaging 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 36.0 minutes per game in his six games to date. Although he had a good start to the season shooting the ball, he is still at 26.7% on his three-pointers and 40.0% overall. Brown said he doesn’t like missing games early in the season, but it sounds like an injury he’ll have to deal with in the future.

On the other hand, the Celtics have the luxury of being able to be cautious with Brown if the injury needs some rest. They have the depth to overcome Brown’s absence, and while he may not want to miss games, it’s still early in the season. Either way, the team will do what’s best for Brown since there’s still plenty of season left β€” and, more importantly, what the team expects will be another deep playoff run.

The Celtics have been largely healthy to open the year. Porzingis is still out for the season, which was expected after offseason surgery. But elsewhere they haven’t had any major injuries like other teams did early this season.
