Jets fire Joe Douglas six weeks after dumping Robert Saleh

One of the most disappointing seasons in Jets history has now led to the team firing both its head coach and general manager.

The team fired Gen. Joe Douglas on Tuesday, a source confirmed. This comes after owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh on October 8.

Douglas has been the Jets GM since June 2019. He finished with a 30-64 record as GM.

His tenure will be remembered for some big misses, like taking quarterback Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall in 2021 and drafting tackle Mekhi Becton in the 2020 first round.

But he also had some hits like the 2022 draft class of Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson and Breece Hall.

Douglas made a big swing in April 2023 when he traded for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

That move hasn’t worked after Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in Week 1 of 2023 and has struggled to find success this season.

The Jets, who started the season with Super Bowl aspirations, are now 3-8 with six games remaining after this week’s farewell game.

The Jets will enter the 2025 offseason undergoing a complete overhaul.

For the first time since 2015, they will look to hire both a general manager and a coach in the same offseason.
