Joe Flacco age, older than Colts coach Shane Steichen

Shane Steichen is the authority in the Indianapolis Colts locker room, but he has no seniority.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has him almost four months ahead. Flacco will turn 40 years old on January 16, 2025, and Steichen will reach that milestone on May 11.

Flacco, Indy’s backup quarterback, joined the “ManningCast” Monday night and addressed the challenges that come with being older than the head coach.

“I try to let it happen naturally,” said Flacco, who added that he doesn’t sense a problem with Steichen. “I still see myself as the player and she as the coach, regardless of the age difference. I think it can be more difficult for the younger coach.”

Flacco said he felt his age in Week 6, when he had a 21-yard run, his longest in seven seasons.

“I could barely name a play in the group after that,” he said.

Flacco appeared on the show during the Baltimore Ravens’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Flacco played 11 seasons for the Ravens, earning Super Bowl MVP honors after the 2012 season. But he has no love for them this year.

“I literally wish all the other 31 teams could lose somehow,” he said. “I’m not advocating for another quarterback. I’m not advocating for another team.”

As for the Colts, Flacco believes the best is yet to come.

“We played one good side of football at a time and got the job done,” he said.
