Joe Mazzulla ‘not worried’ about Celtics star’s hip flexor – NBC Sports Boston

Jaylen Brown has missed the last two games due to a hip injury that has bothered him since training camp. But it doesn’t sound like this is a long-term problem for the Boston Celtics star.

“Don’t worry,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak and Bertrand Tuesday when asked about Brown’s injury.

“He’s doing well,” Mazzulla added of Brown. “It’s a strain, and he’s working really hard every day on treatment and just working on getting back on his feet. So don’t worry, and I don’t think he is either.”

Mazzulla responded in the affirmative when asked if he thought Brown’s injury was not serious and more something to deal with in the future.

That’s good news for the Celtics, especially after Brown’s recent comments about his injury. The NBA Finals MVP told Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe that he had an MRI of his left hip flexor during training camp and that his hip had been giving him so much trouble that he planned to get a second MRI after the win on Friday at the Hornets in Charlotte.

“I didn’t feel like my legs were underneath me because of this hip flexor,” Brown told Washburn. “It affects my explosion more and my outburst. And then, mentally, I’m trying to figure that out too. When I think about it, it kind of messes everything up, but I’ll be fine.”

The ailment didn’t stop Brown from having a strong start to the season; he is averaging 25.7 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in all six of his appearances so far. The Celtics also did well without Brown. They defeated the Hornets on Saturday and defeated the Atlanta Hawks on Monday to improve to 7-1 on the young season.

The C’s are talented enough to play it safe with Brown’s injury, but we imagine he’ll want to get back on the field as soon as possible. Boston’s next game is Wednesday night against Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors at TD Garden, with tipoff at 7:30 PM ET on NBC Sports Boston.
