Tom Aspinall planned to attend Thursday’s UFC 309 press conference but was told he couldn’t. The interim UFC heavyweight champion was an excellent addition to the heavyweight championship match between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic next Saturday at Madison Square Garden. After successfully weighing in as a backup, Aspinall hoped to fight Jon Jones if Stipe Miocic withdrew.

Even if he didn’t, the British fighter made his presence known by appearing in the crowd. While his presence alone was newsworthy, having him sit next to Jon Jones’ brothers was more exciting. But why was such a seating decision made? Well, it could be because Aspinall recently told Michael Bisping during an interview that he might break into the cage to confront Jon Jones to force a match between them. ‘The Count’ wondered whether he would actually do it, to which Aspinall replied: “I would like to, yes, absolutely.”

As if this wasn’t enough, the Englishman also suggested he go all Hulk Hogan and take off his shirt once he got into the Octagon. “Whip the shirt off, go full Hulk Hogan and just start ripping it.”

That would be a truly viral moment that we as UFC fans would love to see, especially if Jon Jones wins the fight as he has turned down the prospect of the match against the interim UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Jones was scheduled to defend his heavyweight title against Miocic at UFC 295 last year, but an injury forced him to withdraw. Meanwhile, Aspinall challenged Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title and successfully achieved victory with a first-round stoppage. Since then, the majority of the MMA community has called for a reunion fight between Jones and Aspinall.

Nevertheless, the UFC stuck with their original plan when they put Jones vs. Miocic moved despite frequent complaints from fans and pundits alike. In fact, Jones has stated on many occasions that he does not want to fight Aspinall and would rather face light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira due to box office appeal. Nevertheless, the fans’ reaction to this clip has certainly put to rest any doubts as to whether Aspinall is Jon Jones’ true rival at this point.

When Tom Aspinall took his seat and crossed paths with Jon Jones’ family, it was a moment that sent fans rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts. Some wondered why Jon Jones’ brothers looked at Aspinall as if they were about to fight. Well, maybe they’ve heard all the accusations from the interim UFC champion. However, if a fight were to happen, there is no denying that Aspinall would be the one to win against the brothers of ‘Bones’.
