Jordan Peterson Calls for Trump FCC Pick to Unmask ‘Real Danger’ of Big Tech Censorship: We Need ‘Transparency’

President-elect Trump for FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has a monumental task ahead of him, warned Dr. Jordan Peterson Wednesday, and exposing Big Tech’s algorithmic hold on free speech is a good place to start.

“He needs to at least make sure that we know how the algorithms work on social media networks and how things are promoted and how things are hidden,” Peterson told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade in an interview that aired Wednesday on “Fox & Friends.”

“Because the real danger, one of the real dangers that we face, is that our discourse will be mediated by intelligence systems whose mechanisms are completely hidden from us, and that actually interferes with our perception, not just our views, because what we see is pre-screened in ways that are invisible to us and increasingly automated, and that doesn’t bode well for the future, let’s say. So transparency regarding how things are promoted and demoted would be really helpful.

The renowned Canadian psychologist is no stranger to censorship battles. Last year, Canadian officials forced him to undergo “social media training” because of his controversial online posts on topics such as gender-affirming care, or risk a disciplinary hearing and possible suspension of his clinical license. Even today, Peterson says his fight for freedom of speech is “far from over.”

Meanwhile, in the US, the new chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, has named tech censorship as one of the “key issues” he will have to consider once he takes charge of the agency.

“Freedom of speech is the foundation of our democracy, and there has been an unprecedented increase in censorship in recent years, and we must restore America’s First Amendment rights,” he said in part.

Dr. Peterson’s daughter Mikhaila, a podcaster and YouTuber, agreed with Carr’s comments and said she is hopeful he can “bring about some change.”

“We also have a problem with how many people get their news from TikTok because we don’t even know how the TikTok algorithm works and if news is pushed there. So transparency there would be good…” she added.

Jordan Peterson says he’s stunned by ‘level of hostility’ towards Trump by ‘elitist left-wing types’

Peterson said his license in Canada remains under threat, adding that he is in the middle of an “intense battle” with the Ontario College of Psychologists and behavior analysts.

“To call them unreasonable has barely scratched the surface. I think in some ways I’m happy about that battle, because… I was on the side of the angels, let’s say. Like, they’re coming after me because of my opposition to the promotion of this mutilating trans surgery on children and the fact that I was one of the first to accept that objection looks damn good,” he said.

‘But no, it’s far from over. Not at all. They want to re-educate me. They are now organizing that, even though the details are still frustratingly unclear. And Trudeau in Canada is doubling down on the free speech front in a terrible way.”

The Petersons also discussed President-elect Trump’s idea to dismantle the federal Department of Education and give parents more control over their children’s education.

Dr. Peterson suggested the change would offer a “more diverse” range of perspectives, giving conservatives a “fighting chance against the progressive crowd.”
