Joy Behar Says Jack Smith Dropping Case Against Trump Proves ‘Karma Doesn’t Exist’

Special Counsel Jack Smith this week officially dropped his investigation into convicted felon and newly elected President Donald Trump, and for “The View” host Joy Behar, the move is a clear sign that “karma does not exist.”

The ABC hosts discussed the move to kick off Tuesday’s Hot Topics, with Behar joking that the idea of consequences for Trump now feels like a mythical creature.

“It kind of shows you that karma doesn’t exist, doesn’t it? I mean, it’s like the Easter Bunny and affordable housing: those don’t exist!” she said. “I mean, I feel like at the end of the day, I think we’re going to get him out. But it will take a while, and let’s hope he doesn’t do too much damage.’

That optimism continued for Behar, however, as she added that she hopes and suspects that Republicans in Congress will “step up” to block certain policies simply “because it will affect them.”

Meanwhile, host Sunny Hostin was equally frustrated that the case was dismissed, repeating that this was Trump’s goal all along.

“I firmly believe that part of the reason he ran for president again was because he wants to milk money out of the government, which is what he did the first time,” she said. “He ran to stay out of jail!” That’s what he did, if we’re being honest, okay?’

The host and former federal prosecutor added that she doesn’t blame Merrick Garland or Jack Smith, telling viewers that, in her experience as a prosecutor, these types of cases take two to four years to prosecute. Trump’s started in 2022 and the clock was up.

“The statute of limitations will probably run out when he’s done, so he did what he wanted to do,” she said.

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
